Windsor, Ontario, is often the hidden gem people overlook when dreaming of their next home or getaway. I get it and I'm here to let you know that the surrounding areas of Windsor are simply fantastic!
There are a lot of areas that make up Windsor-Essex County but I've highlight a couple of gems I would highly recommend to anyone looking to leave the GTA and find a happy (and affordable) life in the southern-most spot in Canada.
Let’s dive into why these areas deserve a spot on your radar.
Amherstburg: A Slice of History by the Water
Amherstburg is the kind of place that feels like it belongs in a storybook. With its cobblestone streets, waterfront parks, and rich history, this town is perfect for anyone who loves a little nostalgia with their daily life. The town boasts a slower pace of living without sacrificing convenience. Imagine strolling along the Detroit River, catching sight of local landmarks like Fort Malden, or grabbing coffee at a cozy, family-owned café.
One of Amherstburg's standout features is its proximity to some of the region’s best wineries. You can easily make a weekend tradition of exploring the scenic vineyards, tasting handcrafted wines, and enjoying farm-to-table dining. And the climate? It's one of the warmest in Canada, thanks to the moderating effects of the Great Lakes. You’ll be soaking up sunshine and spending more time outdoors than you thought possible in Ontario.
LaSalle: Where Community Meets Convenience
Just a short drive from Windsor, LaSalle gives you the best of both worlds. It’s a vibrant community with new developments popping up, making it a favorite for young families, professionals, and retirees alike. LaSalle is known for its parks and trails, including the famous LaSalle Trail system, which is perfect for jogging, cycling, or just getting in touch with nature.
The cost of living here is refreshingly affordable, especially when you compare it to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). You’ll find that your dollar goes a lot further, whether you're buying a spacious home or setting down roots in a tight-knit community. Plus, with excellent schools and recreational facilities, it’s no wonder this town is booming in popularity.
Kingsville: Wine Country with a Small-Town Vibe
If you’re a wine lover (or even just someone who appreciates a scenic drive), Kingsville will steal your heart. Known for its wineries and charming downtown core, Kingsville feels like a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of bigger cities. With lush vineyards that stretch across rolling hills, you’ll always have an excuse to indulge in some of the finest wines Ontario has to offer.
But Kingsville isn’t just about wine. The town is also famous for its vibrant arts scene, local markets, and quaint boutiques that make shopping here feel like a personal experience. And did I mention the incredible farm-to-table dining options? You’re never far from fresh, locally sourced meals that taste as good as they make you feel.
A Gateway to Detroit’s Big-City Perks
One of the biggest perks of living in Windsor or its surrounding towns is the quick access to Detroit. Forget what you THINK you know about Detroit and check it out! It's a fantastic (and yes, safe city) Whether you're heading over for a day of shopping, catching a live concert, or flying out from the international airport, Detroit is just a short drive or tunnel away. The Motor City has evolved into a cultural hub, with a vibrant downtown full of art galleries, incredible restaurants, rich history and let's not forget about the sports teams. You can actually catch a Maple Leafs game without spending a fortune.
Living near the border means you can tap into the best of both worlds. You get the charm and affordability of small-town Ontario, paired with the convenience of a major U.S. city. For anyone who craves both tranquility and excitement, this location is a dream.
Affordable Living with an Upscale Lifestyle
If you’ve been eyeing the skyrocketing prices in the GTA, Windsor and its neighboring towns offer an affordable and welcoming alternative. Here, you can enjoy a spacious home, be part of a close-knit community, and have easy access to amenities like world-class wineries, beautiful parks, and vibrant local culture. It's not just about saving money; it’s about living well.
Whether you’re looking to relocate, invest, or simply explore, Amherstburg, LaSalle, and Kingsville offer the kind of lifestyle that feels just right.
I have a lot of great neighbourhoods I'd love to show you around. Reach out and let's start talking about your move to Windsor.
